5th CULTURE DAY 2017
Autor: Andreja Remar Vidrač, 30. 5. 2017.

The 5th Culture Day was held in the 6th Primary School Varaždin on the 26th of April 2017. The aim of this project is to increase the awareness about the importance of culture in everyday life among pupils, parents and the community.

The day began with folk dances in the morning. Pupils from the 1st to the 6th grade danced traditional folk dances in the school square. They were taught by their teachers from grades 1-4 and P.E.teachers, and they all trained and practised a lot. The teachers attended education in folk dances with Mr.Krešimir Plantak, who also designed the choreography for the dances.

Later that day there was an afternoon show held in the gym. Before the show, all visitors could see the exhibition of our pupils' art works (mentored by Mr.Ivan Duić and Ms.Željka Dugi) in the school hall, and to buy the ceramics products made by the Students' Cooperative. In the show there was singing, dancing, acting, reciting… It started with our school choir called 'The Varaždin's Nightingales', that sang several songs conducted by Ms.Ružica Kapitan and accompanied on the piano by Ms.Vesna Leljak Petković. Younger Drama Group presented a play about falling in love (mentored by Ms.Lovorka Draginić). Dolores Pretković, a 7th grade student, recited a monologue about problems in adolescence and family. Another play, this one in the English language, was presented by English Drama Group (mentored by Natalija Hranjec): 'Little Red Riding Hood'. The same mentor prepared 5th grade student Paula Ivaniš for singing a song in German language 'Ja fur immer'. Older Drama Group (mentored by Martina Kučar) took us to the magical world of fairy tales and their fantastic characters in a play called 'How to Make a Fairy Tale?'. Young Ethno Group danced folk dances, dressed up in traditional folk wear (mentored by Nikolina Kelemenić). Religious Drama Group prepared a play about Jesus as a guest in a TV show giving advice for a good life. The last play was in the German language: 'Otto und Emma im Theater'.

Everybody in the audience – pupils, parents, grandparents, teachers and other visitors – had a great time, laughed and learned a lot, enjoyed themselves and praised the show. Everybody is looking forward to the next culture day!
